Leeds PCT |  Press Release  | 20 August 2008 (pdf)

Leeds Primary Care Trust (PCT) has appointed Grange Medicare Limited to deliver NHS GP services at New Cross Surgery, Rothwell; Swillington Clinic; and Middleton Park Surgery, Leeds 10.

The appointment was made following a wide ranging formal public engagement carried out between 10 December 2007 and 10 March 2008. The comments and feedback from the people of Rothwell, Swillington and Middleton to this process were invaluable in helping the PCT to understand what local people really want from their GP services.

Some of the things they said were:
• that they want quick access to GP appointments
• that the actual building and location is very important to them
• it is important that the GP service remains local
• opening hours need to serve patients need and that may mean opening later and at weekends
• specialist services should be provided locally.

Dr Damian Riley, Director of Primary Care Leeds PCT, said: “We value the opinion of local residents and their comments will be used to help develop additional GP services.

“As part of the formal engagement we invited interested members of the public to form a Patient Advisory Group so that they had the opportunity to voice their opinions on the tender process and review the submitted proposals.

Feedback from the public engagement was also taken into account when assessing the suitability of the applicants.”

Following a comprehensive evaluation, Grange Medicare Limited was chosen to provide the services. This overall evaluation included assessments around clinical experience, ability to deliver the volume of clinical service required and meet patients’ needs and the organisations overall financial stability.

Grange Medicare Limited demonstrated that they are an excellent and experienced provider of GP services offering the highest level of care and representing the best value for money.

A number of the GP partners – Dr Kamal, Dr Iqbal Ahmed and Dr Manjoor Shahid – currently provide the GP services at New Cross Surgery, Rothwell. Grange Medicare Limited also has significant experience of delivering high quality care across other sites in West Yorkshire.

Dr Kamal, Executive Chairman of Grange Medicare Limited said:” We are committed to giving patient friendly medical care from all three practices and we are looking forward to working together with the existing staff to help us to deliver a first class service for patients.”

“Patients registered at all three practices will continue to receive the same services that they have always had and we welcome the help and support of staff, patients and local patient groups to understand what additional services are needed, what currently works well and what can be improved upon.”

The new contract will begin in early Autumn.

Rothwell Today | 29 July 2008

The private firm which is to run New Cross Surgery in Rothwell has been named.

Grange Medicare Limited has been selected to provide NHS care at New Cross as well as two other GPs in Leeds.

The others are Swillington Health Centre & Middleton Park Surgery in Middleton.

Leeds Primary Care Trust (PCT) chose the firm because its staff are already providing healthcare elsewhere in West Yorkshire and several of company’s GP partners work at New Cross Surgery.

Grange Medicare was chosen after local people were asked their views during a three-month consultation which ended in March.

They said they wanted quick access to GP appointments, a local family doctor service, convenient opening hours and specialist services in their surgery.

Dr Damian Riley, director of primary care at Leeds PCT, said: “Grange Medicare Limited demonstrated that they are an excellent and experienced provider of GP services offering the highest level of care and representing the best value for money.”

Dr Lufte Kamal, executive chairman of Grange Medicare Limited said: “We are committed to giving patient friendly medical care from all three practices and we are looking forward to working together with the existing staff.”

The firm will take over in early autumn.
