Eastern & Coastal Kent PCT | Press Release | 1 December 2008
NHS Eastern and Coastal Kent (Primary Care Trust) is pleased to announce it has appointed DMC Healthcare Ltd as the preferred provider for a new GP-led Health Centre in Sheppey Community Hospital. This decision was made at the Primary Care Trust (PCT) Board meeting on the 28th November 2008. Locating the new facility at the Sheppey Community Hospital is making good use of existing popular NHS facilities that are well known to the local population.

The facility is an important addition to the existing GP services in the Swale locality and will offer an enhanced service to both registered and unregistered patients, with access to a GP or other healthcare professional available from 8am until 8pm seven days a week, 365 days a year, with a combination of bookable and “walk-in” sessions.

Services will include a mobile facility that will visit selected locations around the island offering access to people who find it hard to access existing services.

The facility will open by March 30th 2009 and the Primary Care Trust and DMC Healthcare Ltd will continue to provide information as the details of this project emerge.

Medway leads the way to new GP-led health centre

Medway PCT | Press Release | 17 December 2008

Medway became the first area in Kent, Surrey or Sussex to sign the contract for a new GP-health centre this week.

Contracts were also signed for three new GP surgeries in Medway.

When the new services open in the spring, they will make it easier for people in Medway, traditionally an area which has been short of GPs, to get the care they need.

The health centre, which will offer services to people who are not registered at the practice as well as to those who are, will be open between 8am and 8pm across five different sites in Gillingham, Twydall, Parkwood, Hoo and Hempstead. It will be run by DMC Healthcare Ltd, which is also opening a new practice in the Wayfield area.

The two other practices will be managed by College Health. One, based in Sterling House, Luton, is expected to open in March 2009. The other, in Boots in the Pentagon Shopping Centre in Chatham, is expected to open in May 2009.

NHS Medway, the primary care trust which pays for all NHS healthcare for everyone who lives in Medway, commissioned the new services to make it easier for people to get access to GP services.

Jill Norton, NHS Medway Assistant Director of Primary Care, said: “I am delighted to have signed the contract for these new services for people in Medway.

“We went through a very exacting process to award the contracts, looking carefully at the quality and range of services on offer, and DMC Healthcare and College Health shone out above other bidders.

“Our aim is to strengthen and improve services for people in Medway, so that they can get the care they need when they need it, and have choice about where and when they are seen. This is an important development in helping us do that.”

Anil Gupta, Operations Director for DMC Healthcare Ltd, said: “The work begins now to deliver the vision we and the PCT have for primary care and improving everyone’s health.”

Protichi Mallik, Medical Director for College Health, said: “We are very pleased and honoured to be working with NHS Medway to provide new GP surgeries which we know are needed by local people, and we look forward to providing an excellent service for our patients.”
