PEOPLE feeling under the weather can now walk into a new health centre without an appointment to see a GP or nurse in Hereford.

NHS Herefordshire launched the new service, available seven days a week between 8am and 8pm, next to the ASDA store on Monday.

“When we consulted the public, there was strong support for a walkin health centre, which will supplement the excellent service already provided by GPs in the county,” said Chris Bull, chief executive of NHS Herefordshire and Herefordshire Council The centre will open over the festive period and patients can use the service while remaining registered with their own GP.

The phone number for the new service is 0330 123 9309 – the same as the current number to call a GP out of hours.

The centre is being run for NHS Herefordshire by Primecare and is temporary until a permanent walk-in health centre is built next year.

Soon people in Hereford will be able to walk into a health centre, without an appointment, to see a GP or nurse, seven days a week between 8am and 8pm. The service will be launched just before Christmas.

NHS Herefordshire is setting up the service at the ASDA Health Centre in the city fromMonday 14 december. It will be an interim arrangement until a permanent walk-in health centre is built next year, with govermment funding of £1.5 million.

The ASDA Health Centre will be open over the festive holiday. Patients will be able to use the new services while remaining registered with their own GP. The phone number for the new service will be the same as the current number to call a GP out of hours – 0330 1239309.

The permanent new GP-led walk in health centre will replace the temporary service at ASDA, which will run until the new facility is opened. Discussions between NHS herefordshire and Herefordshire Hospitals NHS Trust to site permanently the new health centre at the hospital have been progressing strongly.

Cllr Glenda Powell.

Hereford Times | 14 October 2009

Hereford shoppers will be able to pick up a prescription with their groceries thanks to new GP services at a city supermarket.

NHS Herefordshire is set to provide GP services at ASDA, which will enable people to see a doctor without an appointment between 8am and 8pm, seven days a week.

The interim service at the ASDA Health Centre will start from December and will also be open over Christmas. Patients can use the Asda service and remain registered with their own GP.

A permanent GP-led health centre, which is likely to be at Hereford County Hospital’s A&E department, will replace this temporary service by next summer. If talks over the hospital site are successful, it will supersede a planning application to place the centre within the grounds of the Stonebow Unit.
