South Staffordshire Primary Care Trust (PCT) is moving forward with the development of the new Cannock Health Centre following ongoing public consultation.

The Health Centre, which will be a three floor complex, will house four GP suites, and have consulting rooms for a range of services including speech and language therapy, endoscopy, minor operations, podiatry and heath visitors.

The practices which will move into the new centre are Nile Practice, Dr Verma, Dr Thompson and the Red Lion Practice and patients will retain their own GP. Each practice will still work independently of one another, but will be able to offer the patients who are registered with them the benefit of being in a brand new facility which will have many additional services.

Geraint Griffiths, Locality Director (West), South Staffordshire PCT said: “The consultation activities were extremely successful and we have taken on board the comments and opinions we received.

“A tremendous amount of work is currently going on behind the scenes including finalising our Transport Survey and our Business Plan which is essential and necessary with this scale of development.

“This work will also include further detailed discussions with local residents who live in close proximity to the development.”

The centre, due to open Easter 2011, will be a multi-purpose facility which will integrate a range of health services for people of all ages.

Within the centre South Staffordshire PCT is also ensuring that it is embedding sustainable facilities which are ecologically sound including a living roof, geo-thermal heating from pumps in the ground and other energy efficient features.

Anyone wanting to discuss the development should call Geraint Griffiths or Nicky Brooks at the PCT on 01543 465100.
