THE new health centre planned for Scunthorpe has not yet got agreed funding, it has been revealed.

The £15-million project is planned for West Street but the Strategic Health Authority has not yet given the go-ahead to the high profile project.

That bid is expected to be made before the end of 2009 and it is possible building work could be underway in 2010 subject to planning.

NHS North Lincolnshire has to get approval for an outline business case for the scheme, which is expected to provide walk in care from 8am to 8pm every day.

North Lincolnshire Council has approved in principle the use of council-owned Allanby Street car park but the scheme is also still subject to scrutiny by the planning authorities.

A £4-million health centre scheme for the Winter Gardens, Cleethorpes, fell apart last month after the parties involved in the scheme fell apart.

An NHS North Lincolnshire statement said: “The project will be funded by the capital from the Yorkshire and Humber Strategic Health Authority, subject to their approval of the outline business case.

“NHS North Lincolnshire sees this project as a key part of its continued work to improve the health of the area and tackle health inequalities.”

A spokeswoman for the Strategic Health Authority said: “Discussions have been taking place with NHS North Lincolnshire over the proposed centre and we are now awaiting the submission of their formal business case.”
