He said, “I am delighted to be opening the Derby Open Access Centre today, which will undoubtedly make a huge difference in improving access to healthcare for local people.”

One Medicare opened the centre in December 2008 and is one of the first of 152 GP-led health centres opening around the country. It is part of a Government programme to increase access to family doctor services.

The new centre delivers services to both registered and non-registered patients 8am to 8pm, seven days a week and offers bookable and walk – in appointments to any member of the Derby public. They will be able to use these facilities while still staying registered with their local doctor or they can choose to register at the centre. One Medicare are working closely with Lister House Surgery to develop new services to benefit the community such as a drugs and alcohol clinic to bring the best possible services and healthcare to Derby.
